Oops, No 2-Year School Board Seat Up for Grabs in Primary

Northampton County Voter Registration Office says there will be no two-year term in Region 3 for Nazareth School Board election.

There's one less school seat available in the upcoming primary election.

Miscommunication between Nazareth Area School District and the county voter registration office led to a two-year school board term being included in the primary by mistake.

Linda Stubits, a candidate for the Nazareth Area School Board, informed Nazareth Patch that she received notice from the county Voter Registration office that there will be no two-year term for the Nazareth School Board Region 3 position.

The office got word via email from the Nazareth Area School District Friday that there was no two-year vacancy, Stubits said.

She said voter registration stated that an error occurred between the school district and registration office. She was informed that there would be a procedural court hearing to remove the Region 3 two-year term position from the ballot in the May 21 primary race.

Stubits was the only candidate who had filed petitions to run for two-year and four-year terms.

Zach Audenreid, who filed for only the two-year term, will now be allowed to run for the four-year term as a result of this error.

That means, in Nazareth Region 3, there will be four candidates running for two available school board seats.

Six incumbents and two newcomers are now running for six school board seats in the May 21 primary election. All candidates are cross-filed as Democrats and Republicans.

Schools Superintendent Dennis Riker said that the district's business administrator is working through the details with the county and that there was a mixup on the county end.

Riker said he would provide Patch with more details when he receives them.
