Daugherty Removed from Nazareth Boards

Former Nazareth Mayor Fred Daugherty Jr.'s spot on several boards was wiped clean by Borough Council Monday night.

Before the Nazareth Borough Council could name a new mayor Monday night, it had to remove the old one.

While Fred Daugherty Jr. resigned more than two weeks ago, Monday's meeting was the first time the council had a chance to address the issue.

And the first step was accepting Daugherty's resignation.

Councilman Frank Maurek made the motion and Vice President Larry Stoudt seconded, adding "with regret."

That cleared the way for the Borough Council to appoint a new mayor, which it did by naming Carl Strye Jr. to fill the seat for the rest of the year.

While Strye took his seat with the council for the rest of the meeting, he has yet to be sworn in. That must be done with a District Justice present and will probably take place at June's council meeting.

Motions were also made to accept Daugherty's resignation from the borough's Ambulance Board and Planning Commission.
