Nazareth Police: Crime Rose 61% in April
Fifteen cases of vandalism are reported in Nazareth Borough for the second straight month.
handled 54 incidents of criminal activity in April, up 61 percent from March.
"It's definitely a spike," Police Chief Thomas Trachta said at Monday night's Borough Council meeting. "As summer approaches, there's a lot more crime. People are outside so you get more vandalism, graffiti and criminal mischief. The same thing happened last year at this time and the year before that."

Members of the public complained about the spike, including cases of vandalism -- 15 in both March and April.
"We have less police officers, and it's well-known," Trachta said. "That's the problem,"

CRIMINAL ACTIVITY
- Ten disorderly conducts
- Eight larceny thefts
- Seven frauds
- Four drug abuse cases
There were also two assaults, two burglaries, two DUIs, one public drunkenness charge and three other unnamed offenses.
TRAFFIC
- Seven traffic tickets
- 11 warnings
- 15 traffic accidents.
Parking Enforcement
- 170 parking meter violations
- 42 non-meter violations
- 212 parking tickets.
The total monthly income for the department was $8,156.64, down from $9,126.25 in March.
