Bangor Main Street Bridge Open Again

PennDOT says that the bridge has reopened two months ahead of schedule.

The Route 512/Main Street Bridge over the Brush Meadow Creek has reopened in Bangor, two months ahead of schedule, PennDOT announced Wednesday.

Although the bridge is now open, motorists should expect lane restrictions with flagging through the afternoon as workers remove signs.

The contractor replaced the old structurally deficient concrete T-beam bridge with a cast-in-place reinforced concrete, rigid frame bridge.

Work began last December, and during construction PA 512 was closed and detoured at the intersection with High Street and Erdman Street.

The posted detour routed passenger vehicle traffic on Main Street, Ridge Road, Johnsonville Road, and PA 512. Trucks were detoured on PA 191, PA 611, and PA 512.

Grace Industries, Inc. of Bath, Pa. was the general contractor on the $1,060,360 project. Grace Industries opened the bridge almost two months ahead of the August 27 contract completion date.

The old PA 512 Bridge was constructed in 1922. The Bridge was 29 feet long and 34 feet wide.

The new Bridge is 61 feet long and 26 feet wide. PA 512 has an average daily traffic volume of 8,790 vehicles.
