Woman Leads Nazareth Police on High-Speed Chase, Court Records Say

An Upper Nazareth woman is in custody after leading police on a high-speed chase in a minivan Monday night, crashing then forcing her way into an apartment to hide, according to court documents.

An Upper Nazareth woman driving a minivan led police on a high-speed chase Monday night that ended when the woman crashed her vehicle into a patio deck, fled on foot and forced her way into an apartment, court records say.

Bobbie Sue Alercia, 30, of the 200 block of Hemlock Lane, is charged with burglary, criminal trespass, fleeing police, possession of drug paraphernalia, recklessly endangering another person and traffic violations.

According to the arrest affidavit:

  • Nazareth officer Dan Troxell spotted Alercia, who was wanted by authorities in connection with a drug case, while he was on patrol at 6:50 p.m. Monday and attempted to get her to stop her minivan.
  • Alercia fled at a high rate of speed through several streets, eventually crashing into a rear patio deck of a property in the 500 block of Walnut Street.
  • With the officer in pursuit, Alercia fled on foot. She forced her way into an apartment on E. Prospect Street, hid in a closet and locked herself inside.
  • The officer, to make sure she was not harming herself or had anyone in the rooms, kicked the door open and placed her into custody.

Police said Alercia also had a suspended driver's license and that a glass crack pipe was found in her purse.

She was sent to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $40,000 bail, police said.

According to a report on lehighvalleylive.com, Alercia was being sought because of a probation violation on a 2012 drug paraphernalia case.
