Woman 'Kept Slamming' Door on Nazareth Cop, Police Say

Heaven Campbell, of Nazareth, is charged with repeatedly hitting a borough officer with her hands and a door during a welfare check in late January.

A 22-year-old Nazareth woman is facing assault charges for allegedly hitting a borough officer -- sent to her apartment for a welfare check -- with her hands and a door in late January.

Heaven Campbell, of the unit block of Easton Road, was arraigned Tuesday in front of District Judge John Capobianco and charged with one felony count of aggravated assault, one count of simple assault, and two counts of resisting arrest.

She remains in Northampton County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail.

According to a police criminal complaint:

  • Officer Steven Lindstedt was dispatched to Campbell’s apartment for a welfare check at 2:34 a.m. Jan. 24.
  • Campbell had dilated pupils, did not respond to Lindstedt’s requests, and appeared to be under the influence of something, court records say.
  • She also was delusional and may have been experiencing an episode of psychosis, or a loss of contact with reality, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Campbell threatened to call 911 for police assistance, despite Lindstedt being in full uniform.
  • Campbell hit Lindstedt several times with her hands and “kept slamming” a door on the officer.
  • When Campbell walked into her kitchen, “where many knives were kept,” Lindstedt attempted to handcuff her. She resisted and refused to sit down in a chair when ordered.
  • Officer Scott Ledo arrived at Campbell’s apartment. She was injured when the officers used force to handcuff her. The nature and severity of Campbell’s injury were not detailed in court records.

Campbell was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital Anderson Campus for a mental health evaluation and to be treated for her injury.
