2 iPhones Swiped from AT&T Store, Police Say

A Monroe County man, assisted by another man, allegedly stole two iPhones valued at $1,200 from an AT&T store in Lower Nazareth Township.

A Monroe County man, assisted by another man, stole two iPhones valued at $1,200 from an AT&T store in Lower Nazareth Township in late March, then went across the road and sold the phones for about $511, court records say.

Police have charged Sean Michael Dohn, 21, of Polk Township with the alleged theft, but they have yet to identify the other man.

The records say Dohn and the other man stole an iPhone 4 valued at $550 and an iPhone 5 valued at $650 from the AT&T store at 3758 Dryland Way off of Route 248 on the evening of March 25.

Dohn is charged with then going across Route 248 to the GameStop store in the Northampton Crossings shopping center and selling the phones for $204.14 (iPhone 4) and $306.94 (iPhone 5), the records say.

The GameShop sale happened 30 to 45 minutes after the alleged theft, the records say.

Police used surveillance video from both stores to help track down the suspect.

A criminal complaint filed by Colonial Regional Patrolman Keith D. Kulp alleges the following details:

  • An AT&T store employee said two men entered around 8:25 p.m. while the employee and a colleague were busy with customers. After a few minutes of looking at iPhones, the men removed security cords from the phones—one man handled one phone and the other man handled the other phone—and ran out of the store with the phones.
  • The next day, Kulp watched surveillance video with the AT&T store manager. He later went to the GameStop store, where the manager there said the two phones in question were sold around 8:55 on the night of the alleged theft. Kulp discovered that the serial numbers of the phones sold at the GameStop matched the numbers from the stolen phones.
  • The GameStop manager also gave Kulp driver’s license information from the man who sold the phones. The license information identified the man as Dohn. The identity of the other man could not be made because Dohn sold both phones and the other man left no identifying information.
  • Dohn has no prior retail theft charges, but will be responsible for $1,200 in restitution.

Dohn, whose Polk Township address is 209 Emily Way, was charged with retail theft, criminal conspiracy to commit retail theft and receiving stolen property.

He was arraigned at 10 p.m. Tuesday by on-duty District Judge Todd Strohe of Bangor and committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $3,000 bail.
