Teacher Accused of Sexual Assaults Headed to Court

The case of a former Nazareth Area Middle School drama teacher accused of repeated sexual assaults of a male student over more than two years is headed to court.

Shawn William Salevsky, 39, of Lower Macungie Township, waived his preliminary hearing Wednesday, meaning his case will head to Northampton County Court.

Salevsky, appearing before District Judge John Capobianco of Nazareth, was wearing a dark purple long-sleeve shirt and black trousers. His attorney, Marc Neff of Philadelphia, had no comment about the case.

Salevsky remained free on $75,000 bail. Capobianco removed a bail condition that Salevsky undergo random drug testing.

Salevsky’s formal arraignment was scheduled for Aug. 8 in county court.

Salevsky was fired by the school district April 22. The alleged incidents occurred between January 2011 and March 15 of this year, according to court records.

According to several websites, Salevsky is a graduate of DeSales University and formerly taught at Holy Family School, also in Nazareth, and Allen High School in Allentown. He also has performed with the Civic Theatre of Allentown.
