A 66-year-old Riegelsville woman has been charged with shoplifting at the Kohl’s in Lower Nazareth Township, according to court records.

Beverly M. Heuer of 1229 Easton Road was caught by store security on Tuesday afternoon trying to get away from the store with six items of women's clothing she had not paid for, according to a criminal complaint filed by Colonial Regional Police.

Mel Natal, a store security officer, told police that he was watching Heuer as she selected several items in the women’s department and put them in her yellow purse, according to the affidavit.

Heuer then left the store without paying for the items, police said. Natal told police that he observed the woman outside the store in her car removing the items from her purse and putting them into a Kohl’s shopping bag, the complaint said.

The total value of the stolen items was $196.36, police said.

According to the affidavit, that was Heuer’s second theft from the store in the past week. On Saturday, Heuer was recorded through closed-circuit surveillance putting a pair of sneakers valued at about $70 into the same yellow purse and walking out.

Heuer admitted to both thefts during questioning after she was given her Miranda warning, police said.

Heuer was charged with two counts of retail theft. She was arraigned before on-duty District Judge Diane Marakovits of Northampton and released on $1,000 unsecured bail.
