Residents Disturbed, Disgusted Over Police Deal

Some residents who have commented on Patch.com feel that Nazareth Borough Council is not even considering keeping a local police department.

They are disgusted and disturbed.

Nazareth citizens have voiced their opinions on Patch.com this week, outraged over how the Nazareth Borough Council is handling the future of the police department.

About 15 residents attended Monday night's Police Committee meeting in which they were told that officials are awaiting a proposal from Colonial Regional Police before deciding the fate of Police Chief Thomas Trachta and his personnel.

The meeting was the first without

Mayor Fred Daugherty Jr., who resigned the week before. Some are even signing a petition that is circulating to save the Nazareth Police Department.

And that doesn't sit too well with some who commented on Monday's article:

"Wake up Nazareth before it’s too late," Jake Tucker said. "The people will have no voice or opinion but will be paying dearly once it happens."

"Get it together already!!" said thetrollster. "You're playing with people's tax money and saftey. If we have the money to pay another force to come in, then we have the money to keep what we have and improve on our own police force."

"So, now me and my family's safety for Nazareth Borough is in the fate of Lower Nazareth, Hanover, and Bath," said Justice 100%. "Am I the only one here who feels that it would appear that this council has already made up it's mind and is going do what it must to get CRPD in? Enough is enough, either give us police now or get out of office!"

Wayne Schissler said he attended Monday's meeting and was concerned about whether Nazareth officials would present the proposals for public input before making a decision.

"Instead of council waiting for CRPD members to approve a proposal it would make more sense to realize that the majority of Nazareth residents don't want to merge with the CRPD," he said.

"I signed the petition and pray that Council will allow the residents to be protected by a local force. As of this time, I have not come across anyone in favor of the CRPD when discussing this matter," said a woman who identified herself as Sherry.
