Report: Route 33 Bridge to be Inspected After Car Fire

A car caught fire Tuesday on Route 248 beneath a Route 33 overpass in Lower Nazareth Township, according to published reports.

A vehicle fire on Route 248 beneath a Route 33 overpass in Lower Nazareth Township brought traffic to a halt Tuesday night, according to The Express-Times.

No one was in the car at the time of the fire, which was extinguished by and .

Several firefighters from the Lower Nazareth department were still at the scene of a , which is why Nancy Run provided assistance.

The Route 33 overpass was visually inspected from the ground by a Northampton County bridge foreman. Despite soot on the steel beams, he felt the integrity of the overpass was not compromised by the fire and was safe for travel.

However, as a precaution, a bridge inspector from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will conduct another, more thorough inspection Wednesday morning.
