Police: Woman Barricades Herself, Children in Fear of Drunken Husband

Nazareth resident Jason Taylor charged in Tuesday morning incident in borough.

A woman barricaded herself and her two children behind a locked third-floor door in Nazareth after her husband, who police say was drunk, made verbal and physical threats against her and apparently injured one of her fingers, according to court records.

The husband, Jason Taylor, 39, was charged Tuesday morning—several hours after the alleged incident at his home at 203 N. Broad St.

A criminal complaint filed by borough Patrolman Stephen Schleig says several times that Taylor was drunk and also notes that Schleig saw "a lot of spent beer cans" in the kitchen.

Schleig says he was dispatched to the home around 7 a.m. and found the woman and her two children behind a locked third-floor door. He said the husband's alleged "verbal and physical threats of violence" toward his wife "caused enough fear to barricade" herself and the children and call 911 for help.

The officer said Taylor caused a "laceration, redness and raised skin" to one of his wife's fingers. He also saw a broken picture frame and "other scattered objects" on the first floor, where he said the incident occurred.

Schleig says he found Taylor in his second-floor bedroom.

Taylor was charged with simple assault, terroristic threats and harassment. He was arraigned at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday by District Judge John Capobianco of Nazareth and committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $2,500 bail.
