Police: Colonial Chief Catches Lobster Thief

Colonial Regional Police Chief Roy Seiple caught a man Sunday taking steak and lobster from the Giant in Lower Nazareth, according to court records.

Colonial Regional Police Chief Roy Seiple was in the Giant Food Store on Route 191 in Lower Nazareth Township Sunday when he happened to see a man loading up a cart on surf and turf, according to court records.

Seiple watched the man until he left the store -- bypassing all registers and not paying for the items, valued at $643.80. The chief then identified himself as a police officer and detained the man in the parking lot. He then called 911.

The suspect, Miguel Angel Berrios, 52, of 1562 Linwood St., Apt. 103, Bethlehem, was charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property. He was arraigned later Sunday by on-duty District Judge Diane Marakovits of Northampton and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.

In another “surf and turf” case, two men have been charged with stealing surf -- all lobster tails -- and turf -- filet mignon, steak and other meats -- from the Weis Market in Palmer Township. The value of the items was $1,300.

The above arrest information was supplied by District Judge Diane Marakovits' office. It does not indicate a conviction.
