Police Blotter: Five Retail Thefts and a DUI

Thefts continue at Lower Nazareth Township stores.

reported the following incidents:

  • Retail Theft: An East Stroudsburg man was cited for retail theft after he allegedly tried to take a pair of jeans, a shirt and a belt from Kohl’s on Feb. 17, according to police.

    According to the store’s loss prevention staff, Donald Reed, 22, went into the fitting room and changed into the items.  He then left the store without paying for the merchandise that was valued at $112, according to police.

    Reed was cited for retail theft and released.

 

  • DUI: After losing control of her vehicle at the intersection of Hecktown and Butztown Roads in Lower Nazareth Township on Feb. 18, a Bethlehem woman was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, according to police.

    Anita Defranco, 49, lost control of her vehicle, police say, and crashed into a fence and fire hydrant.

    Defranco was taken to the Bethlehem DUI center for processing.  DUI charges will be filed through District Judge Joseph Barner’s office when blood test results are complete, according to police.

  • Retail Theft: A former employee of Kohl’s was charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property after he allegedly took items from the store over a period of two months in November and December, according to police.

    Anthony Moss, 44, of Forks Township, allegedly stole $461.79 worth of merchandise, police say.

    Moss was arraigned on Feb. 22 before District Judge Jacqueline Taschner and released on $1,500 unsecured bail.


  • Retail Theft: Two Easton women were cited when they attempted to leave Kohl’s with unpaid merchandise, according to police.

    On Feb. 23, police say, Tara Kozak, 25, took a shirt and tie from a display and concealed the items in her purse.  Alexa Kozak, 20, then removed a pair of shoes from a box and tried them on.  According to the store’s loss prevention staff, she then handed the shoes to Tara who concealed them in her purse.

    A 4-year-old girl was with the women at the time, according to police.

    Tara was cited for retail theft and criminal conspiracy to commit retail theft.  Alexa was cited for criminal conspiracy to commit retail theft.


  • Retail Theft: On Feb. 23, police responded to in Lower Nazareth Township for a report of a woman in custody for retail theft, according to police.

    Aimee Burrier, 41, of Lower Nazareth, allegedly attempted to leave the store with 10 items valued at $20.45, police say.  The items included stickers, birthday gel, party favors, and bouncy balls.

    Burrier will be charged with retail theft, receiving stolen property and corruption of minors.
