Police responded to Your Hometown Deli, 150 Spring St., on May 24 for a theft complaint. Tim Butz, the deli’s owner, reported that on May 20, Garnett stole $850 in cash.

When confronted by Butz, Garnett said he had taken the money to use for bail because he had been arrested over the weekend.

To recoup the loss, Butz told Garnett that he would take the money out of his next paycheck.

On May 23, according to police, Butz placed $425 in one money bag and $200 in another at about 8 p.m. The next day, Butz said he checked the bags -- one contained $400, the other contained nothing.

After checking the deli's surveillance video, Butz observed Garnett enter the property at about 8:47 p.m. on May 23, and then enter the room where the money was kept.

In total, Garnett is accused of stealing $1,025.
