Nazareth House Fire Destroyed Kitchen, Caused Smoke Damage

The American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley assisted two families living at 157 S. Broad St. Friday night after a fire broke out in a kitchen area.

A blaze at 157 S. Broad St. in Nazareth is still under investigation, according to , a lieutenant and the president of .

When crews were dispatched around 8 p.m. Friday for a "working dwelling fire," they were met with heavy flames and smoke coming from the first floor, Strye said in an e-mail to Patch. Firefighters were able to knock down the flames quickly before further damage could be done.

The rest of the home, however, sustained a lot of smoke damage, Strye said.

No injuries were reported. A cat received oxygen at the scene, and Mike Rinker, the emergency management coordinator for the borough, called for a veterinarian.

The Red Cross provided meals and toiletry items to one family of two adults and three children and a second family of one adult and one child. The residents are staying with friends and relatives.

The home is owned by Joseph Tavianini Jr. of Bath, according to Northampton County property records.
