Nazareth Area School District Warns of Man Posing as Intern

On July 5, a man who identified himself as Kai went to the home of a family near the Lower Nazareth Elementary School and requested "family and curriculum information."

A man claiming to be a Nazareth Area School District intern knocked on the door of a district resident on July 5 and requested "family and curriculum information," according to an alert sent to district families via phone and e-mail.

The alert, sent July 31 by Superintendent Dennis Riker, says the man is an imposter. According to the alert, the man identified himself as Kai. He is described as Asian and in his early 20s.

The imposter knocked on the door of a family who lives near the . Riker urges residents to contact the district and local authorities if "Kai" or any such person comes to their home.

"Please let your family members know that the District did NOT authorize anyone to collect information," Riker explains in the alert, which is available on the district's website. "If we ever need information, you will be informed by my office in advance of such information collection."

Riker adds that any individuals collecting information for the district -- with notice -- will have Nazareth Area School District identification.

you have to be careful, we should knock off all the door to door stuff., thats how a good deal of home invasions take place, and oh well!!! who is going to listen anyhow

The man has been knocking on doors in the area for a few weeks, using different stories. He came to our house pretending to sell books, saying he was collecting the money at the time for books. Call the police non-emergency line at 610-330-2200 if you've run into him.

AND BE CAREFUL, DO NOT OPEN DOORS FOR ANYONE

Isn't it about time they informed us? They could have nabbed the man if we were told about it in a timely fashion. We should all be afraid if this warning took a month to come out!!!! Unimportant things are broadcast the next day!!! The school board should be ashamed!

The school district was not made aware of the man until July 30. It notified the public on July 31, the next day.

My wife called the non-emergency number at the 911 center and they wouldn't help her. They told her she had to call her local police department. She called Upper Nazareth and they told her they knew nothing about this and weren't going to get involved since the first report was in Lower Nazareth, not Upper Nazareth. What the hell?

So I take my earlier comment back. If you don't live in Lower Nazareth, don't bother calling anyone. They're not interested in helping catch the guy.
