Meet Nazareth's New Part-Time Police Officers

Two officers are introduced at Nazareth Borough Council meeting Tuesday.

Nazareth Mayor Carl Strye Jr. was happy to make the announcement.

At Tuesday night's Borough Council meeting, Strye introduced for the first time to the public two part-time police officers the borough recently added.

Strye stated that officers Jeremy Kahle and Eric Schwab have joined the force and he welcomed them to the public as the borough rebuilds its police force.

"This is the first time under my time here that we've hired a couple of police officers," the mayor said.

Strye thanked the police committee for approving the hires and the council for helping to get the police department back on track.

He also thanked the officers for taking on night and weekend shifts -- police coverage that is much needed in the borough.

"This is a start," the mayor said.

The officers did not speak and left the meeting after shaking hands with every council member.

The police department, which will remain after a deal with Colonial Regional to oversee police coverage fell through, now has the chief, two full-time officers and nine part-timers, including the new hires.

Nazareth is in the process of advertising to hire full-time police officers.
