Man Swipes 58 Circuit Boards from Bath TV Shop, Police Say

Written by Jack Tobias

A Schuylkill County man who was doing business with a Bath television repair shop is accused of stealing 58 printed circuit boards worth $5,800 from the shop.

Court records say William L. Kreider Jr., 35, of Schuylkill Haven took the circuit boards March 8 while the owner of International Television, 126 W. Main St., was out on a service call.

The shop owner already was having a problem with Kreider, the records say. The two had an agreement that the shop owner would supply television parts to Kreider, who would then sell the parts on eBay.

But the shop owner told police he had questioned Kreider about why he – the shop owner – hadn’t received any money from the parts he had given Kreider.

A criminal complaint filed by Colonial Regional Det. Gary Hammer says Kreider visited the shop on March 8. The owner said he told Kreider he wouldn’t be getting any more parts until the owner received some money from the parts he already gave him.

The owner said one of his employees was present when he told this to Kreider.

The owner and the employee then left on a service call, and while they were gone Kreider removed 58 printed circuit boards – each worth $100 -- that were in boxes, the complaint says.

Another shop employee watched Kreider removing the boards and asked him about it. He said the owner knew he – Kreider – was going to take the boards. He also said he wanted to take advantage of driving a van that day because he lived far from the shop.

The owner told police he called Kreider several times after March 8 to get the boards back but had no success reaching him.

An arrest warrant was approved on May 7.

Kreider was charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition and receiving stolen property – both level-three felonies.

He was arraigned Wednesday afternoon by District Judge John Capobianco of Nazareth and released on $7,500 unsecured bail.
