Man Allegedly Tried to Sell Drugs in Plainfield Township

An Allentown man is in Northampton County Prison after allegedly trying to sell $60,000 worth of methamphetamine to a confidential informant in Plainfield Township.

An Allentown man who goes by the alias “Joey Sofake" or "Joey Safoke” made arrangements to sell two pounds of crystal methamphetamine for $60,000. He pulled up to a residence about 20 miles from his home driving a black Mercedes and delivered a package to his buyer.

The buyer turned out to be a confidential informant, and the Allentown man was later charged, according to court records.

The incident involving "Sofake," whose real name is Johnny B. Constanza, was conducted by the state attorney general’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigation and Drug Control. It occurred about 12:25am Saturday.

The records, which spell the suspect's alias two ways, say the informant ordered two pounds of crystal meth from Constanza and agreed to meet him at a residence on the 1400 block of Church Road. The package Constanza gave to the informant had two plastic containers.

The substance field-tested negative for methamphetamine, but the records contain no explanation for this. Police also recovered two cell phones from Constanza, one of which was used to arrange the deal, the records say.

Constanza, 48, of 309 S. 16th St., was arraigned Saturday by District Judge Adrianne Masut of Wind Gap on charges of criminal attempt to deliver a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility. He was taken to Northampton County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of $100,000 bail.
