Ice Storm Warning Issued, Schools Close Ahead of Storm

National Weather Service advises against travel.

The National Weather Service has cancelled its winter storm warning for today and put an "ice storm warning" in its place until tomorrow evening at 6 p.m.

"Significant amounts of ice accumulation will make travel difficult or impossible," the Weather Service says in its warning. "Travel is strongly discouraged."

The Northampton County 911 Center was expecting to bulk up its staff late tonight in response to the storm, the Express-Times reported.

The Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley, meanwhile,  shelters in case of blackouts, and also cautioned people to be careful when trying to heat their homes during a power failure.

Upper Nazareth Township, Bushkill Township, Stockertown and Tatamy officials have declared snow emergencies.  All vehicles must be moved from snow emergency routes.

Nazareth Area School District, including Holy Family School/Nazareth, is CLOSED Wednesday.

This week's weather has cancelled after-school activities and sports for Nazareth Area students. Tuesday's basketball games against Easton have been moved to Wednesday (which may be moved again!).
