Hit-and-Run in Bath Leads to DUI Charges

A Lower Nazareth Township man had a BAC of .14 percent when he allegedly hit a parked vehicle with his truck on E. Main Street in Bath, according to police.

After hitting a parked vehicle with his truck, driving away and then failing several field sobriety tests, a Lower Nazareth Township man is facing DUI charges, according to Colonial Regional Police.

A blood test showed that William F. Sommers III, 29, of Pine Drive, had a blood-alcohol content of .14 percent.

The legal limit for motorists in Pennsylvania is .08 percent.

Around 10:14 p.m. on Feb. 14, two Colonial Regional Police officers witnessed Sommers hit a parked vehicle with his truck on E. Main Street in Bath. After hitting the car, Sommers continued south on Bath Pike (Route 512), according to police.

The officers, who were doing Cops in Shops at the time, got into an unmarked cruiser and stopped Sommers on Route 512.

According to police, Sommers smelled of alcohol and told the officers he did not know he hit the parked vehicle. The truck Sommers was driving sustained damage on the passenger side.

Sommers was given several field sobriety tests, which he failed, according to police.

Sommers was arraigned before District Judge John Capobianco and charged with driving under the influence - general and driving under the influence - high rate of alcohol (BAC of .10 to .16). He was also charged with "accidents involving damage to unattended vehicle or property."
