Found Glasses Don't Belong to Missing Nazareth Teacher

Nazareth Area High School teacher Matthew Greene has been missing since mid-July.

The Nazareth Area School District kicked off the new school year Monday with one of its teachers still missing.

The Find Matthew Greene Facebook page reported over the weekend that glasses that might belong to Matthew Greene were found in California.

"We are working to secure these glasses now, they were found by a hiker and being delivered to the Police as I type this," someone posted on the page. The glasses were going to be examined to see if they matched Greene's prescription.

But late Monday, Greene's mother confirmed that the glasses weren't a match.

Patricia Greene said the black wire-rimmed glasses -- found late last week near the area where Greene went missing last month during a backpacking trip in California -- don't have a prescription similar to Matthew Greene's. They are glasses normally bought off a drugstore rack, she told the Easton Express-Times.

Greene, a high school math teacher in the Nazareth Area School District, a Bethlehem resident and a Lehighton High School graduate, was last seen in Mammoth Lakes on July 16. Search and rescue attempts are continuing.

The family says the finding of the glasses makes them hopeful that Greene may be found.

Donations and all fundraising efforts will be used to support search and rescue efforts, travel aid for those going to the site of Greene's disappearance, and in the long-term medical or other arrangements when he is found.

Police are asking anyone with information about Greene’s whereabouts to call the Mammoth Lakes Police Department at (760) 934-2011 or the Mono County Sheriff’s Office at (760) 932-6549 X7
