FEMA Awards Bushkill Township Fire Co. with $50,000 Grant

The Bushkill Township Volunteer Fire Company has received more than $50,000 through FEMA's Assistance to Firefighters Grants program.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded a local fire company with more than $50,000.

The Bushkill Township Volunteer Fire Company on Friday received $54,625 through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program. The money will be used to modify the company’s facilities, according to FEMA.

“Pennsylvania’s firefighters endure risk and sacrifice every day to keep their community safe,” Senator Bob Casey told WFMZ. “This money will help provide Northampton County’s firefighters with the resources they need to ensure their safety and the safety of those they serve.”

The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grants, according to www.fema.gov, is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations.

FEMA's website adds: "Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards."
