Bushkill Teen Threatens Parents, Steals Car, Police Say

Cory Merritt accused of taking car from home in Bath the same night he threatened his parents.

A Bushkill Township teenager who was charged last week with assaulting and threatening to kill his father is now accused of stealing a friend's car and phone.

Cory Merritt, 19, of the 1900 block of Bushkill Center Road, is charged with theft and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

According to court records, Bath resident Bradley Burgess reported his car stolen Aug. 1, the day after he'd allowed Merritt to spend the night at his home.

When Burgess got up the next day, Merritt was gone, as were Burgess' car and phone.

According to the Express-Times, Merritt was in jail at that point, in custody for allegedly threatening to kill his parents.

Merritt was arraigned on the car theft charge before overnight District Judge Daniel Corpora in Easton and sent to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail.
