Borough Man Allegedly Injures Self, Fakes Robbery

Dennis Vandoren told police that four armed Hispanic men robbed him of $400 and a new Xbox 360.

A Nazareth man who entered a store with lacerations on his body admitted he made up a story that he was assaulted and robbed by four armed Hispanic males in the parking lot of the in Lower Nazareth Township, according to .

Police say Dennis Vandoren, 58, of S. Broad Street, claimed that at 6 p.m. on Jan. 5, the men took $400 in cash and a new Xbox 360 he had recently purchased.

Vandoren has been charged with making false reports to law enforcement authorities.

According to police, Vandoren entered the GameStop at 3782 Easton-Nazareth Highway with lacerations to his face, hand and leg and asked store employees to call 911.

After viewing surveillance video, police discovered that Vandoren had sat in his vehicle for six minutes before heading toward the store. Police say he briefly stopped by another parked car before entering the GameStop.

Vandoren’s wallet, a pair of gloves and a bloody knife were found under the parked vehicle and after police interviewed Vandoren, he admitted to fabricating the story, police said.
