On the eve of Girl Scout cookie season in the Lehigh Valley, a California teen has called for a boycott of the cookies based on the Colorado Girl Scout council's decision to admit a transgender child into a troop.
The almost seven-minute-long video, which has been removed from YouTube and replaced by a shorter version, sparked dozens of response videos as well as heated debate online about the nature of a gender-based scouting organization.
The Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania released a statement late Thursday evening.
"The Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania (GSEP) is looking forward to the official start of local cookie sales, which began today (January 19) and run through March 4," said Natalye Paquin, CEO of Eastern Pennsylvania Girl Scouts. "We anticipate full participation of our local troops because they understand the value of this program for our girls."
