Yard Waste Centers to Open in April

Yard waste facilities in Nazareth Borough and Lower Nazareth, Upper Nazareth and Bushkill townships are gearing up for the 2013 season.

Nazareth Borough

The borough's Yard Waste Recycling Center on G.W. Stoudt Boulevard will open for the 2013 season on April 2.

Residents with proof of residency can drop off yard waste, clippings and branches during open hours. A valid driver's license with a Nazareth Borough address must be presented at the time of dropoff as the site is staffed and monitored.

The center will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. The facility is closed every Monday and Friday.

The facility will remain open until Nov. 30, 2013.

Upper Nazareth Township

The yard waste facility at 155 Friedenstahl Ave. will open on April 20.

Facility hours are Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Don't forget, the township now has a metal collection container at its yard waste facility. All metal items, including appliances, will be accepted.

 

Lower Nazareth Township

The township's yard waste program, hosted at 4600 Newburg Road, is open.

March through November:

  • Mondays OR Fridays: 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (appointment necessary)
  • 3rd Saturday of the Month: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. (no appointment necessary)
  • Holiday Schedule: If a holiday falls on a Monday, program will be open on Tuesdays. If a holiday falls on a Friday, program will be open on Thursdays.

Acceptable Material:

  • Brush (natural/untreated): 12-inch diameter max and no longer than 6 feet; bushes - no roots please! 
  • Compost Items: Hedge trimmings, garden residue and leaves - loose or in brown paper bags only. NO PLASTIC BAGS!

BRUSH AND COMPOST ITEMS MUST BE KEPT SEPARATE.

Unacceptable Material:

  • Grass Clippings
  • Sod
  • Soil
  • Straw or Hay
  • Plastic Bags

Bushkill Township

Bushkill Township offers a yard waste program through the First Regional Compost Authority. Yard waste disposed by residents are processed and composted, and are then made available as mulch and compost to residents free of charge.

The actual compost facility is in East Allen Township, but Bushkill Township maintains a local dropoff location at 897 Clearfield Road.

To drop off yard waste, residents must obtain a permit—at no charge—from the Bushkill Township Zoning Office at 1114 Bushkill Center Road. The office is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Acceptable Materials:

  • Branches (no larger than four [4] inches in diameter and five [5] feet long)
  • Small Brush
  • Hedge Trimmings
  • Garden Plant Residue
  • Leaves (loose or in brown paper bags specifically designed for leaf disposal)
  • Christmas Trees (free of tinsel and ornaments)

The Facility WILL NOT ACCEPT:

  • Grass clippings
  • Sod
  • Tree Stumps
  • Large woody debris
  • Plastic or other synthetic materials
  • Lumber

Dropoff hours are Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. Facilities are closed from Dec. 1 through March 1 and all legal holidays, with the exception of the first three Saturdays in January for Christmas Tree dropoff.
