Winter Storm Warning Issued for Nazareth Area Friday

A winter storm will make for a messy Friday in eastern Pennsylvania, but the worst of it is forecast to hit New England.

The National Weather Service says a winter storm will bring snow, sleet and rain to the Nazareth area Friday into early Saturday morning. Northampton County will be under a Winter Storm Warning for 10 to 16 inches of snow from 6 a.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday.

In the Lehigh Valley, the NWS is predicting a heavier hit for areas -- including the Nazareth area -- north of I-78.

The NWS adds: "The heaviest snow is expected late in the day and Friday night with 1-2 inches of snow per hour. Northerly winds will gust to 30mph, causing blowing and drifting. There is a small chance of a thunderstorm with the snow."

WFMZ continues to predict 3 to 6 inches of snow for the Lehigh Valley, while the Eastern PA Weather Authority is predicting 6 to 12 inches for most of Northampton County.

Snow should develop Friday morning, then mix with or change to sleet and rain, before changing back to all snow.

The snow could be heavy at times later Friday afternoon and Friday night, the Weather Service says.

The storm is predicted to exit the area early Saturday morning, with clearing skies and a high of 33 to follow.
