UPDATE: Snow, Frozen Precipitation Possible Saturday

Snow, sleet and freezing rain are possible starting late Friday night into Saturday, according to the latest forecasts.

UPDATE, Jan. 20, 11:05 a.m.: The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch that will remain in effect until late Saturday night.

Portions of the Lehigh Valley and northwest New Jersey can expect 4 to 8 inches of snow and up to a tenth of an inch of ice, according to NWS.

"Snow will overspread the region after midnight, falling with varying intensity into Saturday morning. The snow will gradually mix with or change to sleet and freezing rain," the winter weather message says on www.weather.gov.

ORIGINAL POST: If you're planning to travel on Saturday, you may want to monitor local weather forecasts, as several are now predicting that a winter storm could affect the region.

If the storm develops, it would be the first significant winter precipitation event of the unseasonably mild 2011-2012 season, not including the October snowstorm.

As of Thursday evening, the National Weather Service had issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for east central and southeast Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey.

According to that outlook, "an inch or two of snow is possibly late Friday night into Saturday morning. Then some freezing rain is possible on Saturday."

Lehigh Valley Weather Patrol with Bobby and Suzy is also highlighting the possibility of frozen precipitation on Saturday.
