Route 33 Project to Begin Tonight, End in September

A $2.4 million project to improve a portion of Route 33 in Northampton County will begin tonight, July 12.

A $2.4 million project to improve a portion of Route 33 in Northampton County will get under way tonight, July 12, according to a press release from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. 

The project will include roadway resurfacing, bridge maintenance and new pavement markings on Route 33 north and south between the Belfast exit and just south of Route 22, the release states.

The work will be done during weeknights -- Monday through Thursday -- from 7pm to 6am, and is expected to be completed by September.

This section of Route 33 passes through Stockertown and Bethlehem Township, in addition to the townships of Lower Nazareth, Bushkill and Palmer.

PennDOT urges motorists to use caution and to “allow for extra time traveling through the area.”

Updates will be made available when traffic patterns change, according to the release. 

J.D. Eckman Inc. of Atglen (Chester County) is the general contractor on the $2,437,967 project.
