OUR SACRED GROUND

This current blog deals with the matter of gun laws and the government at federal and local levels. Gun laws will not be the only issue that this blog will discuss.

Sandy Hook caused yet another opportunity for those who not only wanted to eliminate guns but are intend on giving us a "Living Constitution". If we destroy any part of our nation's spine we will no longer be what our Founding Fathers had in mind for us.

Sandy Hook was a horrible event. No matter how it happens the death of a child causes great grief. Yet our leaders saw this event as another opportunity to attack one of our most fundamental rights and that is the "right to keep and bare arms" Sandy Hook is not the first time that those in our government and our nation attempted to eliminated our ability to protect ourselves and our families. The interesting fact is that every time the govenment made this move they never, ever addressed the true issue of what needed to be done and that is enforce the laws we have on the books at the various levels of government. For those of you who are not familiar with those laws, they being Federal laws in this case, allow me to borrow some information from Wayne La Pierre, that bad guy from the NRA.

In the most recent issue of "The American Hunter" LaPierre cites EIGHT FEDERAL LAWS ON CRIME AND GUNS and he asked his readers to pass them along to the rest of the folks who are not familiar with Federal Laws we have available for the punishment of the bad guys

1. 10 years---18 U.S. C.& 922(g) for possession of a firearm or ammunition by a felon, fugitive, or drug user...and possession means touching a gun, any gun, handgun, rifle or shotgun. Any firearm that Dianne Feinstein would ban for us, is already an illegal gun for violent criminals

2. 10 years---18 U.S.C.&922j---for possession of a stolen firearm

Here in the Commonwealth we have a law put into affect under Governor Thornburg in the 1980's. This law makes in mandatory to add 5 years to a prison sentence if you committed a crime with a gun. I recall one local story on this that occurred many years ago. They acutally put the additonal 5 years on his sentence. I have not seen it done again. Why you ask? Because the District Attorneys use this to plea bargin with the criminal so they can get the guys higher up in the criminal world. Some how I do not believe that was Governor Thornburg's intent.

With all of these laws already in place at the Federal level and undoubetedly at the state level why are we in need of new laws when it appears, as we have stated all along, we need to use the laws we already have in place.
