America,, Her Wars, and Our Current Economic Situation

How we went from a nation favoring peace to an imperialist nation that has engaged in wars both declared and undeclared. Where are we going.

I believe most of us can agree that our economy is not exactly where we would like it to be. We have seen prices on our necessitities go through the roof limiting our purchasing to basic needs. We have heard our government officials tell us that they need to raise taxes on one hand while stating that we need to cut taxes and spending. I have read that we need to address issues like social security, the third rail we were not suppose to touch. We need to make adjustments to Medicare and Medicaid. These are but a few of the programs we have targeted. What to do?

When the revolutionay war was over George Washington was looking at the nation and hoped that we would be able to have 20 years of peace so that the nation could grow. Washington wanted us to be in a position where we would be able to pick our friends. He believed that we needed to trade with those who liked us and those who did not and that we should be a good example for our republican form of government.  He reminded the nation that America should not engage in entangling alliances. The reason being simple, we would go the way of Rome. Unfortunately we did not take Washington's cares seriously.

If you look at the wars we were engaged in over our years you would see that only seven were formally declared wars. We have wars that while not officially declared were substanial wars. We also, over the years, found ourselves fighting in Police Actions. As you might imagine we spent a lot of money and we continue to do so with major wars going on as this is written. How did this happen when we had such good advice from Washington on the matter of entangling alliances and diplomacy.

When the Revolutionary War was over our officals moved to keep the militias as the primary military force with a bit more then 2000 men in a standing army. Today our military is massive and is spread around the world. We have drones, a whole new division to the military, that will increase the price. Do we need to make changes here that would recoup billions of dollars for our domestic economy. Do we need to ask oursleves do we need this massive military complex that General Eisenhower forecasted decades ago.

In the early days of our nationhood we aligned ourselves with the words of our Founders in particular Washington's comments on alliances. As time went on there were those within the nation who move toward imperialism, Teddy Roosevelt is a major example of those supporting the growth of America not only within our borders but also outside our borders. TR was not the only one who felt we needed to create an American Empire. Thus the march for empire began. Starting with WW I we have engaged in two declared wars, five not officially declared war, and seven so called police actions.

On top of the money we spent on the wars, we also assisted any and all allies we worked with in all of that military activity. In World War II we brought our allied nations back from the brink of economic disaster. One of the ways we did that was to build nuclear weapons that allowed our allies to rebuild there economy while we protected them with our nuclear umbrella.

It is time for us to return to Washington's statments on entangling alliances. We have a government that is involved in everything and is located everywhere. Meanwhile the citizens are having a difficult time paying their bills and providing for themselves and their families. Allow me a few suggestions.

Get out of every military base around the world and bring the men home. Let our friends and our enemies know that we are no longer available for war but we are willing to assist under certain circumstances.

We are not going to spend our money on willy nilly things. Do not come to ask us to go to war with you or send you the newest jets and drones. We will be willing to discuss your problems and continue to engage in commercail endeavors and be your friend but don't ask us to fight your wars

America needs to come home. We need to restore our morals. laws and values. We start by ending abortions of our children. We need to put our nation back together so that we can walk down the street and can smile at everyone. And we need to become involved in the doings of this great nation.
