Nazareth Chamber Hosts Health & Wellness Expo

Twenty-two different vendors displayed their goods and services on a serpentine path of tables at the  Tuesday night for the Nazareth Area Chamber of Commerce’s Health & Wellness Expo.

Greeting visitors at the door was chamber president Tina Smith, with her trademark enthusiasm and an embroidered bag of goodies. Many chamber members were present, including the Wellness Committee, who organized the event.

Businesses from around the Lehigh Valley brought their expertise in health and wellness and plenty of zeal. Check out the photo gallery for lots of smiling faces (be sure to spot the woman from , dressed inexplicably as a banana. She gave me a bookmark).

The vendors ranged from the somber to the light-hearted: representatives from were on-hand to take blood-pressure screenings and to hand out magnetic dry-erase sheets with emergency contact information, while ladies from the Senior Circle, a social organization for elderly people, dressed in Hawaiian garb and handed out leis.

Here’s a few of the vendor highlights and some upcoming events from the Health & Wellness Expo:

• on Belvidere Street in Nazareth, an alternative healing and wellness spa, will be holding aroma readings on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. Aroma reading is a method of clearing the aura through aromatherapy.

• Audrey Prokopowich, the director of Senior Circle, discussed the group's myriad of events for seniors, including bus tours, line dancing and Senior Idol (you can imagine what that is). Senior Circle has 3,400 members and is an affiliate of Easton Hospital.

• The Nazareth YMCA is holding a play date for children on Saturday, April 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event includes a moon bounce, face painting, snacks and much more. On May 16 is the 37th annual golf tournament at Woodstone Country Club in Danielsville. The YMCA is currently accepting registrants.

• Mandy Cook from Chick-Fil-A of Lower Nazareth was on-hand giving out gift cards for free menu items. Chick-Fil-A was the recipient of the chamber’s for 2010. Good news everyone; they also cater!

• Sheila Polityka was present on behalf of Lehigh Valley Easy Pages to unveil their newest book and hand out free copies. Lehigh Valley Easy Pages is the only phonebook exclusively serving the Lehigh Valley.

• Frank DeRosa, chairman of the Nazareth Area Chamber of Commerce, had a booth for his company, Med Alert Services. DeRosa demonstrated the product, a button worn around the neck that sends an emergency signal to a representative, 24 hours a day. He also handed out refrigerator magnets with a stress-test button; apparently I was very calm.

• Amy Baskar, Wellness Coordinator at Moravian Hall Square, doled out granola treats and event schedules. She was accompanied by the mysterious banana-suited woman. Moravian Hall Square is a retirement living community right in Nazareth.

• Grace Spezzano, local executive with Green Leaf Productions in Easton, was present to advertise the new show “Concerning You,” premiering May 9 on WFMZ. “Concerning You” is a health and wellness program that will discuss all types of health and maintenance issues.

• And finally: due to the Health and Wellness Expo, I can now confirm that I am calm (thanks to DeRosa), that I do not have cataracts (thanks to Visionnaires of Easton) and that my blood pressure is only slightly higher than it should be for my age (thanks to Easton Hospital). I can probably thank my editors for that, too. Just kidding, guys. Don’t fire me.
