Gyro Café Closes in Palmer Park Mall

A little more than a month after  departed, the American Gyro Café has closed in the Palmer Park Mall, .

However, mall General Manager Brian Molchany said Wednesday that he is hopeful one vacancy will be filled.

"We're in the process of negotiating with another bookstore as we speak," he said. "We hope to fill that vacancy soon."

Read Green Books, a used bookstore that also had a shop in the South Mall in Salisbury Township, closed on April 7.

The chain of bookstores was committed to selling quality recycled books at low prices, but company officials said it was shutting because it no longer had a recycling partner.

Molchany said the American Gyro Café left because its lease had expired.

The eatery had been in the mall since November 2009.

Meanwhile, he gave an update on , saying it will begin its lease near The Bon-Ton and across from Payless shoes in the beginning of June.

The mall, which is anchored by  and , features more than 45 stores. But it has lost several stores in the past six months, including DollarSmart and PacSun.

Molchany said he isn't worried about the vacancies.

"The process takes longer than people think," he said. "There's negotiations back and forth and sometimes they fall through. Sometimes you don't come to an agreement and have to start over with a new store. But I know we're working aggressively."

Palmer Township Supervisors Chairman Dave Colver said he isn't worried either.

"It's a very viable location," Colver said. "The area is still growing so there are a lot of locals coming here. Surely, everybody would like to have everything rented. But, with this economy, that's not practical."
