Giant Recalls Daniella Mangos Due to Salmonella Risk

Following a voluntary recall by Splendid Products,  has removed Daniella mangos from its shelves due to a possible health risk from salmonella contamination.

The following product, purchased between July 12 and Aug. 24, 2012 is included in this recall:

• Daniella mangos, PLU 4959

There have been reports of illness associated with consumption of this product in Canada. The product should be thrown away or brought to any Giant. A full refund is available with a receipt of purchase.

Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses. Salmonella infections can be life-threatening, especially to those with weak immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or those undergoing chemotherapy.

The most common symptoms of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever within eight to 72 hours of consumption. Additional symptoms may be chills, headache, nausea and vomiting that can last up to seven days.
