Bites Nearby: Moscato's Tuscan Trattoria

A downtown Easton favorite has returned with a new location and -- mostly -- the same menu.

If you live in the Easton area, chances are you know of , the popular Ferry Street restaurant. What you might not remember, depending on how long you’ve lived here, is that five years ago, that same place was called Moscato’s, and it was as much a hotspot as Sette Luna is today.

In March, owner Donna Marie Burdi reopened her restaurant in Palmer Township -- Moscato’s Tuscan Trattoria -- in the location that was formerly Mangia Italian Restaurant on S. Greenwood Avenue.

Moscato’s is decorated in rustic Italian fashion. The remodeled restaurant features earth-tones, stone facades, classic hardwood floors and a textured tin ceiling.

The restaurant is named for the Moscato grape, which makes one of Burdi’s favorite wines.

“When I was thinking of a name, I thought of that wine,” she said.

Burdi went on to explain that a "trattoria" is an Italian eatery that is generally smaller than a restaurant and is family-owned and operated, like Moscato’s. Burdi’s daughter and other relatives work alongside her.

According to Burdi, about 90 percent of her lunch and dinner menus, which are separate affairs at the new Moscato’s, are reminiscent of her former restaurant.

Among the most popular dishes featured on the revival restaurant’s menu are Zuppa, a Tuscan bean soup; Pappardelle Bolognese, a unique pasta sauce made with pork, beef and pancetta (Italian bacon); and the homemade butternut squash ravioli.

Richard Ferretti, the executive chef at Moscato’s, is a New York-trained chef with more than 30 years of experience in the kitchen. He has been with Moscato’s for more than 10 years, in both the restaurant and the catering side of the business.

“We do things that no one else does,” Ferretti said. “We use the freshest ingredients, we prepare everything fresh and we don’t use deep fryers.”

Moscato’s Tuscan Trattoria is group-friendly and is a BYOB establishment. Actually, Moscato’s will store guests’ bottles of wine for them to enjoy while dining.

The restaurant is located at 190 S. Greenwood Ave. in Palmer Township.

Lunch is held Tuesday through Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
