This Weekend at the Nazareth Center for the Arts

Four musical performances and a revival of "A Christmas Carol" round out a busy weekend at the Nazareth Center for the Arts.

Open House, Performance by Jimmy & Jimmy Duo

Before heading to Center Square for the , stop by the for an open house that starts at 6 p.m. on Dec. 1. Artwork will be displayed and raffle tickets will be available for purchase. The raffle winner will head home with a .

After the tree-lighting ceremony, Jimmy & Jimmy Duo will take the stage at 8 p.m. at the arts center. The twosome is made up of the father-and-son team of Jimmy Maraventano Sr. and Jimmy Maraventano Jr.

In addition to playing some of Jimmy Buffett's greatest hits, the duo's musical genres include classic rock 'n' roll, a few original tunes and cover songs from The Beach Boys, Paul Simon, Bob Marley and more.

Jimmy & Jimmy Duo have been performing together for the last 10 years, and the father and son are both members of the band Jimmy and the Parrots.

According to jimmyandtheparrots.com, the band is “one of the most requested Jimmy Buffett cover bands in the country.” 

During Thursday's performance, the duo will perform some tropical rock -- holiday style!

Admission to the open house is free. Tickets for Jimmy & Jimmy Duo are $10 and can be purchased through the online box office.

 

A Magic Lantern Brings "A Christmas Carol" Back to Life

Through , Charles Dickens' well-known classic, "A Christmas Carol," will be viewed as it would have been more than 100 years ago. A magic lantern was the early form of a slide projector that used pictures painted onto glass slides.

Nazareth’s own Elmer Yeakel will also show vintage images of Nazareth. The presentation will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 3.

Admission is free, but donations to benefit the Nazareth Center for the Arts are requested.

 

Adelante to Perform Saturday at 8 p.m.

Following "A Christmas Carol" with Elmer Yeakel, Adelante will take over the stage at the Nazareth Center for the Arts at 8 p.m.

Adelante means “to move ahead” in Spanish, which is a seemingly appropriate name for a modern jazz band influenced by trance, electronica, funk and ambient music.

The unique trio has a musical style that's been compared to Weather Report, The Bad Plus and the European Jazz Trio, to name a few.

Band Members:

  • J.Jody Janetta -- drums / percussion
  • Paul “Woz” Woznicki -- synths / flute / harmonica
  • Steve Testa -- bass

According to jjodyjanetta.com, “Adelante’s music fuses jazz, improvisational music, world/folk traditions, and contemporary classical and ambient/electronic music.”

Adelante will be joined on stage by Tom Walz, a soloist who performs Americana, blues and country.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased through the online box office.

 

Craig Thatcher and Friends to Perform Sunday at 3 p.m.

Craig Thatcher, an award-winning blues/rock singer and guitarist, will return to the Nazareth Center for the Arts for a special holiday show this Sunday at 3 p.m.

Thatcher, who is based in the Lehigh Valley, will be joined on stage by several members of the Craig Thatcher Band. The band has been performing its own brand of blues/rock since 1993.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased through the online box office.
