Storm Will 'Blanket Area with Snow,' National Weather Service Says

The area could see up to 10 inches of snow Thursday. A winter storm warning is in effect until Friday afternoon.

A nasty winter storm is heading our way, bringing snow accumulation and biting cold. A winter storm warning is in effect for the Lehigh Valley from 1 p.m. Thursday to 1 p.m. Friday.

The storm will begin as rain Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service said, and will change to snow just in time for Thursday's evening commute. The bulk of the snow will fall Thursday night and Friday morning. The National Weather Service says to expect 6 to 10 inches of snow Thursday night.

On Friday we'll face blowing and drifting snow and a dangerously cold wind chill, according to the National Weather Service at Mount Holly, N.J. The temperature on Friday will be about 5 below zero with the wind chill.

Drivers should expect poor visibility throughout the storm, the NWS said, adding that road plowing operations will be affected because of blowing and drifting snow. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Authority is operating under a winter weather advisory and has dispatched emergency crews, it said.
