will hold its annual Robert H. Becker Memorial Concert on Sunday, Oct. 9. The concert, which will feature the “Essence of Joy” choir from Penn State University, will begin at 4 p.m.
The choir is directed by Dr. Anthony Leach, and "will present an uplifting concert of spirituals from the African and African/American traditions, including works by Moses Hogan, Jeffrey Amos, Robert Morris and Glenn Burleigh," according to a press release.
Members of “Essence of Joy” will also perform earlier in the day during the 10:45 a.m. worship service. The public is welcome to attend the worship service, which will feature different music than the 4 p.m. performance.
According to the press release, “Essence of Joy” has performed at the Lincoln Center and the Schomburg Museum in New York City, and has sung for many national music conferences for organizations such as the American Choral Directors Association and the National Association for Music Education.
Tickets for the 4 p.m. concert are $10, and can be picked up at the church's office. On the day of the concert, tickets can be purchased at the door.
A gourmet soup-and-sandwich supper will be held after the concert. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children 10 and under.
