This is interesting. Instead of the usual platitudes of "I support education", "I'm concerned about taxes", & "more technology" I'm seeing some real thought on upcoming issues. Contract negotiations - NASD teachers had negotiated a rather healthy contract while the economy was crumbling all around us and many were just grateful to hang onto a job. In the years that followed I believe the …   more ›

Oops, No 2-Year School Board Seat Up for Grabs in Primary

Northampton County Voter Registration Office says there will be no two-year term in Region 3 for Nazareth School Board election.

There's one less school seat available in the upcoming primary election. Miscommunication between Nazareth Area School District and the county voter registration office led to a two-year school board term being included in the primary by mistake. Linda Stubits, a candidate for the Nazareth Area School Board, informed Nazareth Patch that she received notice from the county Voter Registration office that there will be no two-year term for the Nazareth School Board Region 3 position. The office got word via email from the Nazareth Area School District Friday that there was no two-year vacancy, Stubits said. She said voter registration stated that an error occurred between the school district and registration office. She was informed that …

Another Resident Joins Nazareth Mayoral Race

Deb Miller, a self-employed counselor and mother of six, is the second Republican resident to start a write-in campaign for mayor of Nazareth.

Another borough resident is interested in taking over for former Nazareth mayor Fred Daugherty Jr. Republican candidate Deb Miller, a self-employed counselor and mother of six, has started a write-in campaign for mayor. Jack Herbst, a Democrat who has been a Nazareth Borough Council fixture for 12 years, is the only mayoral candidate running in the May 21 primary. However, anyone who gets 10 or more write-in votes in the Republican primary could face Herbst in the November general election. Carl Strye Jr., the longtime president of Vigilance Hose Co. No. 1, is also forging ahead with a mayoral write-in campaign. More about Miller: Professional: Education: Community Service: Why are you running for Mayor of Nazareth Borough? My husband and …

We need some kind of change. Whether its Deb Miller or Carl Strye or whoever gets written in its time to change things around and this is our chance to do so. This borough has been run by this same council for long enough and they have not shown they are competent enough to vote one of their own in as mayor. We are headed down a terrible path if you vote for in Herbst. He has not shown us that he…   more ›

Vigilance Hose President to Seek Mayor Vacancy

Carl Strye Jr., the longtime president of Vigilance Hose Co. No. 1, is hoping to fill a big vacancy created by the resignation of Nazareth Mayor Fred Daugherty Jr.

Less than 24 hours after Fred Daugherty Jr. resigned as the mayor of Nazareth, the longtime president of Vigilance Hose Co. No. 1 announced he was taking steps to, hopefully, fill the vacancy. Nazareth Borough Council has 30 days to make an appointment to fill the mayor's seat. The only qualification for the appointed person is that he or she is a "registered elector" in the Borough of Nazareth. "I will be submitting a resume for mayor," said Carl Strye Jr. in an e-mail to Patch. "Although a little earlier than anticipated, I feel I am ready to step in and get active." Strye, a Republican, is running against Jack Herbst and Charles Donello, both incumbent Democrats, for two four-year Council seats in the borough's Ward 3. Learn more about …
