There are actually some great original artists in the area. There's Waking Up Dead, for those who like rock or Key Notez, Ry J Long (R&B and Hip-Hop) and Y. Greez for those who like Rap.
There are actually many others, SunSets North is a very talented rock group in the valley. There are Jazz groups like the Dan DeChellis Trio and blues groups like the James Supra Blues Band.
Many of these bands do play in the area when thay can, but a lot of them either don't play out live or they perform outside of the Lehigh Valley area, such as Philly, Reading, Harrisburg, etc., where they do book original artists more regularly.
If you want to see these bands perform more often in the LV area, ask your favorite venue (bar, club, etc.) to look at booking them and other original acts. Remember this, your favorite artist (50 Cent, AC/DC, Robert Cray Band, etc.) all started out as newbies somewhere.

Unfortunately simply asking your favorite bar/venue/club to book one of your favorite bands/artists doesn't work. I have been heavily involved in the local music scene since moving to PA in 2005. There are a lot of dynamics that go into a venue booking a band to play at their establishment. Its just not that simple. Sad as it may be but its reality. Ask any band/musician how hard it is to obtain any consistency with venues and getting gigs.

Tracie,
Thank you for your comment. I have been in the music industry for 30 years now so, I do know how hard it is. This is definitely a "team" effort between fans of original music and the artists. After all, if I ask for a a band to play or just you asking, not much will happen. Just like all "new" ideas, it needs momentum.
Venues are in business to do one thing... Make money. If enough people would ask them for live/original bands/artists, they would either follow the patrons needs or go out of business.
If a club holds 100 patrons and, say, 75 stop coming until the club starts to support live/original artists, the club would jump on the bands.
Is this a guarantee or the only option, no, but doing nothing has gotten us nowhere either.

Guy, you should come out to Lee Gribbens this weekend. I have organized, with the help of Lee Gribbens, an Oktoberfest benefit two day festival. 14 bands in two days and proceeds are going to the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley. Cover bands, original, acoustic, rock, metal and some of these bands are also featured in the Valley Rockers band calendar that will be revealed Oct.5. Myself and Lee Gribbens realize the need for music selection and variety in the community and what a great way to showcase these bands. You should see the awesome guitar that I had donated to raffle off :-) come out and say hello :-) :-)

Tracie, this is definitely a good start and kudos for that. I will surely try to make it.
