What is it like being a firefighter?
"My kids love it. Joe [Suhr's son] can't wait till he turns 16 so he can come here and start hanging out."
What made you decide to become a firefighter?
"Every little boy, I think, when they see that first fire truck wants to be a firefighter... I had friends [who were firefighters]. It's a hell of a lot of fun."
How do your loved ones feel about you putting your life on the line?
"The kids don't really understand it. My wife is more concerned about it -- that something is going to happen."
What would you tell someone who is thinking about joining the department?
"Come on down, try it out, see what it's like, and ask a heck of a lot of questions... You [have] one life to live, better live it to the fullest."
