See Pa. Superior Court in Session at NCC This Week
The Pa. Superior Court will hold sessions at Northampton Community College on Tuesday and Wednesday
For the first time in its history, the Pennsylvania Superior Court will be sitting in the Lehigh Valley at an institution of higher education.
The special session of argument court will take place on February 26 and 27 beginning at 9 a.m. at Northampton Community College, Kopecek Hall, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem Township. Judges Jack A. Panella, presiding judge; Cheryl Lynn Allen, and William H. Platt will serve on the panel.
This court session will provide an unusual opportunity for the public to witness court in action. The session will open with a special tribute to veterans. Taking part in this tribute will be Stanley J. Margell, III, Esq, president of the Northampton County Bar Association; Dr. Mark H. Erickson, president of Northampton Community College; Dennis F. Feeley, attorney, NCC graduate and U.S. Navy Vietnam veteran; Judge Edward G. Smith, Court of Common Pleas and captain, U.S. Navy, Iraq veteran; and Kyle Tiley, NCC student and Afghanistan veteran.
The court will be hearing the appeals in 45 cases that come primarily from the Lehigh Valley. There will be a mixture of criminal cases (everything from murder cases to lesser crimes) and civil cases of all different types, including family law such as divorce and custody cases.
The schedule of events is:
Tues., Feb. 26
- Opening of court and special program: 9 a.m.
- Morning session of argument court: 10 a.m.
- Luncheon recess: 1 p.m.
- Afternoon session of argument court: 1:30 p.m.
Wed., Feb. 27
- Opening of court and morning session: 9 a.m.
- Morning Recess-meeting with students: 11 a.m.
- Luncheon Recess: 12:30 p.m.
- Afternoon Session of Argument Court: 1 p.m.
