Report: "Semi-Celebrity" Priest Ordained in Nazareth Accused of Sex Abuse
Illinois lawsuit accuses Rev. Philip DeRea, chaplain for the Indy 500, of molesting boy
A lawsuit filed in Illinois federal court accuses Nazareth native Rev. Philip DeRea of molesting boys, according to this Morning Call report. DeRea, a friend of the Andretti family, is chaplain of the Indy 500 race.
The plaintiff, a 40-year-old Washington, D.C. man, says DeRea sexually abused him for about eight years. The lawsuit was filed in Illinois because the plaintiff believes that is where DeRea now lives.
DeRea was ordained in Nazareth's Holy Family Church in 1968, according to the Morning Call.
