Nazareth Area High School's swim team collected donations -- and wore camouflage -- for the Wounded Warrior Project during a meet against Moravian Academy on Tuesday, Jan. 24.

The purpose of the project is three-fold, according to www.woundedwarriorproject.org:

  • "To raise awareness and enlist the public's aid for the needs of injured service members.
  • "To help injured service members aid and assist each other.
  • "To provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members."

Used cell phones and store coupons, which can be used by members of the military up to six months after expiration, were also collected.

In addition to the above items, half of the proceeds made at the snack stand were donated to the project, as well as money made from raffles and 50-50 drawings.

Throughout the rest of the season, non-perishable food items will be collected during home meets and donated to the Nazareth Area Food Bank.

During a 2011 meet, the swim team went pink for the American Cancer Society.
