Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Situation Crazy

The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that Quarterback Michael Vick is returning for another year.

It was the last game of the season, a horrible loss to the New York Giants.

And Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Michael Vick, returning for the first time in more than a month after injury, had once again been battered and bruised.

But this time, Vick lashed out: blasting his teammates for a lack of effort and heart.

We all thought that was the last Birds fans would ever see of the controversial QB.

After all, Vick had spent most of the season injured. And when he was on the field, he was producing too many costly turnovers.

He was due a bonus if kept on the roster. And about $15 million if he played next season. So everyone thought Vick would be cut right after the Super Bowl.

Well, guess who's back?

New coach Chip Kelly made a move that most fans are questioning and hating by announcing this week that Vick has restructured his contract and will be donning the green jersey for another year.

He didn't name him the starter, but since Vick will earn $7.5 million -- and possibly $10 million if he meets incentives -- you can expect him behind center next year.

Kelly, I guess, sees Vick as being capable and competent enough to run his high-octane offense.

This doesn't bode well for rookie Nick Foles, who showed some strong signs of life during his six starts last year, but also made some rookie mistakes, which is expected.

So Foles could be a goner, with former Coach Andy Reid also expressing interest in Foles playing for his Kansas City Chiefs. That might be a great fit for Foles.

With the NFL Draft coming up in April, don't be surprised if Foles gets traded. It seems like Kelly has determined that Foles doesn't have a future as his QB.

Also, don't expect Trent Edwards to stick around. He may be great to have in camp or maybe he can make it again as third strng, especially if Foles is traded.

The Birds could also take another quarterback in the draft, one whom Kelly and his staff can groom.

But now that Kelly has signed Dennis Dixon, his former University of Oregon QB, the camp battle looks a little uneven.

Dixon knows how to run Kelly's offense. Big advantage there.

Dixon, believe it or not, also has two Super Bowl rings in his possession: one as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers and another while on the practice squad this past year for the Baltimore Ravens.

You never know, Dixon could beat out Vick in camp for the starting job.

Anyway, this quarterback situation isn't going as Birds fans had hoped or anticipated. It will be interesting how this off-season develops.

But, for now, know this: Michael Vick is your starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles for 2013.

He's not the starting QB. Nobody knows who that will be yet. Eagles are still able to cut him before the season starts and eat the $3mil which is chump change to a guy like me....

I love my pitbulls, not these Eagles. Happily for me, ever since this poor excuse for a human being arrived in town, we haven't had to have the Eagles games on the television on Sundays. Sad for my husband, formerly a die-hard Eagles fan, but our dogs are very happy to know on whose side we choose to stand.

With 147 registered dog breeds and counting, why people continue to buy and breed these monsters is beyond comprehension

Every dog has his day!! Too bad vick isnt one of them. No real human being wants this murderer to play for the eagles I think he got confused when he came here and thought he was playing for the beagles,, dont bring this loser back to the eagles again hes not worth any amount they pay him. Take his salary and give it to the animal shelters..

The day they get rid of Vick will be day 1 I'll spend any money on the Eags (shirts, tix, food, etc.). A buddy of mine has season tix, and I used to buy a couple of them each year. But not since Vick came to town. Can't even stand the sight of him.

It's speculation to say that Vick is the Eagles starting QB, when he couldn't even hold the job at the end of the 2012 season, And it's down right crazy talk to suggest Nick Foles could be a "goner" with a new head coach and little opportunity to play with a competitive Eagles offense last year.

No one knows where the Eagles QB situation is going to be this year, or whether their plans will include Vick at all. Signing Vick to a more attractive contract, not only frees up cap space for the Birds; it also frees up manuverability. The Eagles could very well end up doing a sign & trade for Vick at the draft.

Any way you look at it, Foles has to be the #1 at this point.

Have to laugh at all the Vick haters. Second chances mean nothing to some people; yet we had to endure the football world going gaga over Ray Lewis, who was present, obstructed, and then lied to investigators about the murders of TWO HUMANS in an incident he witnessed by members of his posse'.

Lewis could well end up in the NFL Hall of Fame. And although Vick came clean; did his time; and has been nothing but a model citizen since returning to football, he puts up with more grief than a guy who knowingly lied about his presence and actions during the murder of two humans!

Vick is a flat out awful QB he is stupid for one thing, does not get rid of the ball etc....
I have given up all hope of ever seeing them win a Superbowl in my lifetime, this year we have had it,finally cancelling our season tickets we have had for 30 years. I wish Lurie would sell the team, so we can get the people and QB to win one, that will never happen:(

The Beagles are Barking up the wrong tree by signing Vick. He has never been a winner and never will be, cut the leach and use the money to find a real QB before he Pee's on the Eagles Tree.

Yes I was there, bottom line Braman, let Reggie leave. I still think Jeff Lurie is not seeing what the fans want, a QB like Brady,Rodgers, good Defense that is what wins, not the same old running QB. This is insanity, the same thing over and over and over again. I am supporting the NY Giants in the NFC & Ravens in the Afc. I love Football,Eagles have completely lost me forever. They have both the type QB I like to watch and a very good coaching staff, the type of Football I enjoy watching.

Interesting, Donna, that - as a long-time football fan - you seem to believe that Pro Bowl are a dime a dozen, just waiting to be plucked off the tree. I guess when Flacco and Eli's careers are over you will shop for some other teams that are successful enough for your liking with Pro Bowl QBs.

Convenient ... but not exactly the definition of a "fan". Us Eagles fans won't miss you.

That first sentence should have read "Pro Bowl QBs are a dime a dozen ..."

It's funny how biased this story is, written by the auther. It's even crazy that some folks write about things that have nothing to do with football, whatsoever.

There has been very little discussion about the offensive line and it's inability to block, let alone, protect the Eagle's Quarterback, regardless of who it is. Does anybody even analyze the entire aspect of football anymore?

Let's start with those that want to talk money, since that is an issue for some knowledgeable fans. How much money is being made by the linemen that were among (not the most) the league leaders in sacks allowed? Don't get quiet, now. Can they be cut...and use their salaries to get "real" lineman?

How did these lineman fare against the top sackers in the league? To answer, you have to review the top sackers, and see which one played against the Eagles and then see how many they actually allowed in the 16 games this season, at the very least. That's what a real fan would do!

Or, let's look at how balls were dropped by Eagle receivers? Some have suggested that Michale Vick throws the ball "too hard"? Maybe, but that also said about the former Colts (now Broncos) Q-back. His receivers catch the ball, so does that mean that Michael Vick is stronger than him and others or that the quality of receivers is lacking? You can't have it both ways, can you? Michael Vick can be all at fault, or can he?

The lack of discussion of these football factors is "crazy"!

People relax. Vick will never play a snap as an Eagle again. If the Eagles just let him go, they'd have nothing to show for it. By restructuring his deal they've done themselves a favor. They've kept him around as draft barter. Oh yes, there are worse teams out there that would snatch Vick up in a trade. And by restructuring his deal, the team that get's him will not have to deal with all of the overhead of the previous long term deal. Which also makes it much easier to move him in a draft day trade.

Relax... it's all good.

At this point though, I wouldn't discount Vick as a potential Plan B.

I give Chip Kelly the benefit of the doubt. I have to hope that he knows what has been wrong with the team, as Ken Fennal pointed out so week a couple of posts above. We need good players on both sides of the ball and a coaching staff that knows how important the lineman are, not to mention the importance of good linebackers where we have bot done so well in recent years. As for Vick's status in the near future, it will be what it will be. Kelly is responsible now and I am hoping he does his job well.

I'm sorry to say but I was a bleeding green phanatic eagles fan. The Vick thing.... plus the babin thing... plus staleness of coach Reid.. the arrogance of the FO. Players like Desean and DRC who seem to not care.

Just had enough.

Hoping for better from Coach Kelly era.

I think people have their blinders on. Vick is a great QB. Not elite at all but defenses planned for him every week. I think he was let down by his o line and receivers but as it stands now even if they keep him, he's not going to be the future. Look how many mistakes Favre made in his career. Still one of the greats. People point to championships to prove the worth of Qbs I favor Peyton Manning over Brady but who has more rings? If you are a fan watch and know the game. Last year was not all Vicks fault.

Do I think Vick is an elite QB? No not at all. But I do believe given the opportunity and healthy o line with his offensive weapons ( a healthy Vick) could get us to and win the Super Bowl. With talent on defense of course. But like I said before our future QB isn't there yet.

No. Also Vick will be out of Philly by our 1st game. we will have a 3 year practice squad QB as our starter and 3 year receiver from Tamp Bay he has been injured as well for the same amount of time really we do you think we are going he has J Mac on the trading block you can count out McCoy Jackson will be next . Love my team dislike the coach
