Northampton County Emergency Management Services has raised its level of preparedness in anticipation of Hurricane Irene.
Emergency Management officials and key response agencies have been placed on standby, Robert Mateff, Director of Northampton
County Emergency Management Services, said in a press release.
Hurricane Irene is expected to bring heavy rain and winds gusting up to 60 mph in Easton Saturday night into Sunday.
The county, Red Cross and utility companies advise residents to have a storm kit handy. Your kit should include:
- Bottled water (one gallon per person per day).
- Non-perishable food and can opener.
- Blankets, bedding and toiletries.
- Baby formula, diapers, bottles and wet wipes, if needed.
- First-aid kit and enough prescription medicines.
- Flashlight with fresh batteries.
- Battery-operated radio.
- Hand sanitizer.
- Paper plates and plastic utensils.
- Extra cash.
- Emergency contact information.
- Manufacturer’s instructions for power-operated garage doors.

The National Weather Service has just issued a flood watch for our area as well. This is a potentially very dangerous situation - not to be taken lightly.

Can opener means a non-electric one so if we loose power you can still open cans.

Looks like I'm gonna spend Friday evening bringing-in (securing) lawn furniture and garbage cans. Having a roof-top deck means lots of possible projectiles for the wind to play with. Fun times ahead. Also, called several friends and family in Jersey this morning to offer them free hotel space in my spare bedroom. I was surprised at how many of them didn't even know they were in the projected storm path.
