Nazareth to Commemorate 10th Anniversary of 9/11

An event to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11 will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, at Nazareth Area High School.

 

At 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, the Nazareth Area Community Band will kick off an event to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11 by playing "American Salute," "The Liberty Bell," "American Pageant," "Americans We" and "An American Tribute."

The program will then begin at 2 p.m. in the Nazareth Area High School auditorium with the Presentation of the Colors by the Colonial Regional Police Color Guard and bagpiper James B. Ruhf.

U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent, R-15th, will speak, as will Paul McHale, who formerly held Dent's seat and was Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense.

Other participants in Sunday's event will include the Nazareth Area Community Chorus, the Rev. David Schaeffer from St. John's Lutheran Church, the Rev. Joseph Tobias, MSC, the current pastor at Holy Family Catholic Church, and local fire departments.

The Nazareth Area Community Band will be conducted by Ralph Brodt, III. The Nazareth Area Community Chorus will be conducted by Lenna Harris.

At the end of the commemoration ceremony, representatives from local fire departments will be accepting donations for the New York Firefighters 9/11 Disaster Relief Fund. The fund assists firefighters and their families who were impacted by Sept. 11, 2001.
