Nazareth Area School District Named to AP Honor Roll
No other school district in the area received the distinction.
Only 367 public school districts nationwide received the recognition, Davis said.
The award is given to districts that increase the number of students taking the college-level classes while simultaneously maintaining or increasing the percentage of students achieving a 3 or higher out of a possible 5 on AP exams.
“Since 2009, the Nazareth Area School District increased the number of students' participation in AP from 103 to 143, while increasing the percentage of AP students earning a 3 or higher from 83 percent in 2009 to 84 percent in 2011,” Davis said.
Additionally, the scores indicated that 20 Nazareth students were named AP Scholars, eight were named AP Scholars with Honor and 12 were named AP Scholars with Distinction, he said.
Davis thanked the staff and students for their hard work and credited their efforts for the district's being named. He further noted that no other local schools were so honored.
“I want to point out, you will not see any other schools from Lehigh, Northampton or Monroe counties,” he said. “So all those schools we always hear about, they didn't make this list.”
